One move wins. Every position here is a proven mate in one: the side to move has exactly one move that checkmates, and it has been verified by exhaustive search rather than by a puzzle setter's eye.

Mate-in-one is where pattern recognition is built. The palace is small, the General cannot leave it, and the same handful of shapes recur: the chariot on the back rank, the cannon with its screen, the horse's fork on the palace corner, the flying general that takes a file away. Solve a few of these every day and you will start to see them in your own games before they happen.
