Yes — completely free. Unlimited online games, games against the computer, daily puzzles, lessons, and game analysis are all free to use, with no premium tier or subscription.

Do I need to read Chinese to play Xiangqi?

Not at all. You can switch the pieces between traditional Chinese characters (象棋) and Western-style symbols at any time in the board settings, the interface is in English, and our beginner lessons teach every rule from scratch. Vietnamese Cờ Tướng players will feel right at home too.

How does the rating system work?

We use the Glicko-2 rating system. Every new player starts from a provisional rating, you are matched against opponents of similar strength, and your rating updates after each game based on the result and your opponent's rating. Winning against stronger players raises your rating faster.

Yes. Our built-in engine offers several difficulty levels, so you can practise openings, test ideas, or learn at your own pace before facing human opponents. It is the fastest way for beginners to get comfortable with how the pieces move.

A fresh set of puzzles is published every day, drawn from real tactical positions across every theme and difficulty. Each puzzle you solve adjusts your puzzle rating up or down, and solving on consecutive days builds a streak that tracks your consistency.

Use the report option on any game or player profile. Our fair-play system combines statistical analysis with human review to detect engine assistance and abuse. Confirmed violations lead to rating corrections and account penalties, and you can appeal any action through our support team.

XiangqiPlay is a fully responsive, installable web app that works beautifully on phones and tablets — add it to your home screen for an app-like experience. Native iOS and Android apps are currently rolling out in open beta.
